Deaths of two long-term care residents attributed to COVID-19

Two long-term care patients are the latest Atlantic County deaths attributed to COVID-19, public health officials said Monday.

The 88-year-old woman from Linwood and 84-year-old Northfield woman both had pre-existing conditions that put them at higher risk for complications from the virus, health officials said.The county now has had 51 deaths from the coronavirus.Atlantic County also has 43 newly confirmed cases, bringing the total to 1,142 cases, including at least 442 in long-term care facilities. There are 198 residents listed as recovered.

Testing positive were 16 men ages 26 to 93 and 27 women ages 18 to 97.The newly confirmed cases include 10 from Absecon, seven from Northfield and six from Egg Harbor Township.Galloway Township and Hammonton had four new cases each, Atlantic City has three, with two new cases each in Buena Vista Township, Margate, Mullica Township and Pleasantville. Buena Borough reported one new positive.

The county already had tested nearly 700 residents, with 27.1 percent testing positive. The statewide rate has been more than 40 percent.

Atlantic County will have additional drive-thru testing dates for next Tuesday and Thursday, which are by appointment only and require symptoms and a doctor's prescription.They will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. Those who had appointments for April 30, which was canceled, can come at the same time Monday.

Residents may make an appointment for testing online at www.aclink.org. In addition to the doctor’s prescription, residents must also provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, as well as the appointment confirmation.

As always, those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
