24-year-old Atlantic City man among six new COVID-19 deaths in county

A 24-year-old Atlantic City man is one of six most recent deaths attributed to the coronavirus, Atlantic County health officials said.The other five deaths were all at long-term care facilities, including an 83-year-old woman and 89-year-old man from Absecon, a 58-year-old man from Galloway Township and a 53-year-old man and 87-year-old woman from Hammonton.All had underlying health conditions that put them at greater risk for complications, health officials said.There were also 118 newly confirmed cases, including 40 in Hammonton.The newly confirmed cases included 45 men, ages 20 to 88 and 73 women, ages 22 to 97. There were also 14 more residents listed as recovered.

The county now has 1,433 cases, with 68 deaths and 318 recoveries.Galloway Township had 15 newly confirmed cases, with 11 in Pleasantville and nine each in Absecon and Atlantic City.

There were seven confirmations in Hamilton Township, four in Buena Vista Township and Northfield, and three in Brigantine.

Buena Borough, Egg Harbor Township, Mullica Township, Somers Point and Ventnor each had two new positives, with one in Weymouth Township.

There were five cases attributed to Egg Harbor City, but they may be attributed to surrounding areas with the same ZIP code.

Atlantic County will continue next Tuesday and Thursday, by appointment, for symptomatic county residents with a doctor’s prescription, proof of residency and appointment confirmation.

Atlantic County has tested 1,053 residents to date with 25.9 percent confirmed as positive. The statewide positivity rate is around 28 percent, the governor said Friday.

Testing is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents may make an appointment for testing online at www.aclink.org. In addition to the doctor’s prescription, residents must also provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, as well as the appointment confirmation.

As always, those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
