An Atlantic City man released from prison last year is now charged in a hit-and-run that killed a teen in February.

Everett Williams, 52, is accused of striking the 17-year-old on the White Horse Pike in Absecon, and fleeing the scene without rendering aid.

Police were called to the are near the Executive Lodge east of Turner Avenue just after 9 p.m. Feb. 17, police said.

The teen was struck in the westbound lane.

Police put out several photos of the suspect vehicle at the time, including the license plate number.

An investigation led to Williams being charged April 25, two days before his 52nd birthday.

He was arrested Thursday, after the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force found him in Atlantic City, police said.

Williams was arrested without incident.

He is charged with second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, and third-degree charges of removal of a vehicle identification number, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and being involved in a motor vehicle crash resulting in the death of a person.

Williams has a criminal record dating decades, court records show, including simple assault, court records show. He has regularly driven after his license was revoked, according to numerous violations dating to 1990.

He was paroled March 7, 2023, after serving part of a five-year sentence on drug charges from 2019, Department of Corrections records show.

Williams is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting a detention hearing.

The Absecon Police Department extended its gratitude to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, US Marshal’s Service, Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, and Pleasantville and Vineland police departments "for their invaluable assistance in this investigation and for helping bring it to a successful conclusion."
