Buena Regional teacher charged in sexual relationship with teen student

  • News
UPDATE: Jacobs appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court on March 9 for a detention hearing, where Judge Michael Blee approved his release pending trial.

A Buena Regional High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a teenage student. William Jacobs, 32, of Folsom, had sexual relations with the 17-year-old girl on more than one occasion from November 2016 to January of this year, according to State Police. An investigation found hundreds of electronic communications between the two, State Police said. When Jacobs found out there was an investigation, he allegedly tried to get the girl not to cooperate with police. There had been rumors for weeks that a teacher was being investigated for sex with a student, and that he had been arrested. Jacobs was taken into custody Tuesday by members of the U.S. Marshall Service in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is in the Broward County Correctional Facility pending extradition to New Jersey. He is charged with official misconduct, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, tampering with a witness and obstruction. State Police said the school district fully cooperated with the investigation. The case will be prosecuted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
