Detention hearings held for two of three alleged drug-traffickers

  • News
One of three men who allegedly brought more than $1 million worth of street drugs to Atlantic City will be held pending trial. Steven Torres, Steven Rodriguez and Edwin Gomez are accused of being part of a drug-trafficking ring that brought large quantities of drugs from Mexico to New York and then to Atlantic City. The three were
arrested last week in a parking lot on St. James Place in Atlantic City, where they were allegedly bringing 3½ kilograms of heroin investigators believe was laced with fentanyl. Raw, the drugs were worth about $300,000. But when packaged for sale, they could have sold on the street for more than $1 million, according to Attorney General Christopher Porrino. Torres, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Rodriguez, 22, of Queens, N.Y. had detention hearings before Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Patricia Wild on Wednesday. Wild ordered Torres held and released Rodriguez on restrictions that include biweekly in-person reporting and regular monitoring. Gomez, 31, of Brooklyn, will remain jailed until his hearing Friday.
