  • News

An Atlantic City man was arrested Friday after allegedly breaking into a residence and stabbing his former girlfriend and a man inside.
Carlos Suarez-Vera, 25, was already wanted on a warrant for terroristic threats made against the woman the day before, according to police.
Officers were called to the 600 block of Virginia Avenue just after 11 p.m. for multiple people stabbed, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Officers arrived to find a man and woman stabbed, and the suspect fleeing, according to the report.
The female victim, 35, was bleeding heavily from both arms and sustained life-threatening injuries, Fair said.
Officer Joseph Bereheiko, a trained EMT who carries a fully stocked medical bag, rendered life-saving medical aid by putting a tourniquet on each arm, according to the report.
The male victim, 35, sustained a non-life threatening wound.
Suarez-Vera was chased by Officers Brandon Bower and Latray Butcher and captured.
The suspect had a stab wound to the chest, but it was not known if that was self-inflicted or happened during the assault.
The two stabbing victims, whose names were not released, were taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.
Suarez-Vera had an active warrant for his arrest for terroristic threats against the female victim that occurred on December 17.
He is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, along with single counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, burglary, criminal mischief, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
Suarez-Vera was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

NOTE: The court system has the defendant's name listed as Carlo Suarez-Vega.
