  • News

An Atlantic City couple was arrested after a domestic dispute led to a fire at their home early Sunday morning.
Police were called to the 600 block of Tennessee Avenue at 3:08 a.m., to find the home on fire and the residence evacuated, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Jaleah Coles-Beck, 18, and 31-year-old Kadeem Sutton had gotten into a physical altercation that began inside the home and ended up outside, according to the report.
Coles-Beck allegedly went back inside and assaulted another man inside the home.
At some point, a fire began in the kitchen. How that happened is still under investigation, Fair said.
The fire was contained to the second floor, Fire Chief Scott Evans said. Two families were displaced.
A family member took Sutton to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment of an injury sustained when he was struck in the face by an unidentified object Coles-Beck threw at him, Fair said.
Coles-Beck also was taken to the hospital after complaining of an injury from the fight and the fire, according to the report.
Both were arrested after treatment at the hospital.Sutton was charged with simple assault and released on a summons.
Coles-Beck was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and simple assault. She was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Note: The Atlantic County Justice Facility no longer provides mugshots to the media, citing the Atlantic County prosecutor’s order. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says it’s part of the Attorney General’s Guidelines. There is no such guideline, according to the Attorney General’s Office, but they have told these offices for years that they should not release any photos that appear to be mugshots.
