Egg Harbor Township fire displaces family

  • News

A fire rendered a home uninhabitable Wednesday night in Egg Harbor Township.

Police were called to the residence in the 4000 block of Fernwood Avenue at about 7:20 p.m. for the report of a structure fire, Lt. Ken Marchelle said.

Smoke and flames were showing when police arrived.

Fire personnel from multiple companies responded and quickly controlled the fire, Marchelle said.

The residence sustained major structural damage.

Police were able to contact the homeowners, who were not home at the time of the fire.

The American Red Cross was contacted, and temporary housing arrangements were made.

The fire closed Fernwood Avenue from the Middle School to West Jersey Avenue.
