Absecon police have released details about the vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian Saturday night, and then fled the scene.

A 17-year-old was killed, police said. They did not release his name.

The crash happened just after 9 p.m. in the area of the White Horse Pike near the Executive Lodge motel, just east of Turner Avenue, police said.

The teen was struck in the westbound lane.

The driver failed to stop, fleeing the scene without rendering aid to the victim, according to the report.

An investigation determined the vehicle is a white 2015 Jeep Compass SUV with the tags reading L92PLY. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage.

Traffic was interrupted for about five hours while the crash was being investigated.

Patrolman Da'Zhon Bethea is investigating. The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office is assisting.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact the Traffic Safety Unit at 609-641-0667, ext. 214.

(NOTE: This story originally ran Feb. 18. It has been updated with details about the vehicle, along with the victim's age.)
