Two men jailed in Wildwood home invasion

  • News

Two Cape May County men are accused of assaulting a man during a home invasion in Wildwood, and then running from police.

Scott Hudson and Robert McMichael face charges including second-degree robbery causing bodily injury, eluding and possession of pepper spray.

Police were called to a home in the 200 block of East Bennett Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, when the victim said he had been assaulted after the two men entered his home and stole items, including jewelry and a PlayStation.

He gave 911 a description of the vehicle and what direction it fled.

Responding officers saw a van matching the description of the vehicle several blocks from the scene and tried to stop it, according to the report. The driver refused, and a low-speed chase followed.

The driver drove into flood waters and struck a stop sign before the two occupants ran on foot and were captured.

Hudson, 31, of West Wildwood, was found hiding in a shed, according to information given during a brief court Monday.

Hudson was released from prison Aug. 1, 2022, after serving time for a 2016 drug case and a 2017 conviction of escaping detention, court records show.

McMichael, 38, of Wildwood, and Hudson are both in the Cape May County jail awaiting detention hearings set for Wednesday.

Hudson was additionally charged with additional weapons offenses, including certain person not to possess a weapon due to this criminal history.

McMichael and Hudson were lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in accordance with the Attorney General Guidelines, promulgated in connection with the Criminal Justice Bail Reform Policies and Directives. The defendants were charged after a finding of probable cause and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
