UPDATE: Atlantic City man freed days after sentencing in Galloway gun case

An Atlantic City man sentenced to 3½ years in prison Friday, was released Wednesday.

Michael Wimbish, 42, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun.

He has been jailed since Nov. 9, 2022, when he was stopped while driving in Galloway Township, and police found he had an active warrant out of Atlantic City.

A K-9 dog alerted police during the stop, and search led to a loaded handgun stuffed between the driver’s seat and the center console.

Wimbish already served 3½ years in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The Department of Corrections allowed him to be released straight from the Mays Landing jail rather than transfer to state prison first.
