The body of 16-year-old Kaliyah Hand was found on the beach in Margate early Monday morning.
A Margate police officer found the body at Jefferson Avenue, Atlantic City Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
She was positively identified by Dr. Gerald Feigin of the Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Officer.
Hand was struggling in the water off Martin Luther King Boulevard when her friend, Ramon Quinn, 15, jumped in to save her.
Both teens went under before rescue workers arrived.
Quinn's body has not yet been located.
