Mullica man gets 30 years in prison for murdering wife

  • News
A Mullica man who insists he accidentally shot his wife while cleaning her gun was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday. Sergio DeRosa, 59, will have to serve the entire sentence. In a lengthy statement, Rosa continued to deny that he intentionally shot his wife, and said he just wants his son, Christopher back. Sergio and Lynn DeRosa had been together since they were 17, and married 35 years when she was fatally shot as she sat on the couch May 26, 2014. "I'm not a murderer," Sergio DeRosa told Judge John Rauh, saying his wife knew the truth. "She's standing here next to me," he said. Rauh said DeRosa continues to show no remorse and deflect blame in the case. The judge began the hearing by rejecting a motion for a new trial. Defense attorney Jill Cohen said there was no evidence that this was a murder. She is filing an appeal. It will be her last act as his attorney, after she told Rauh that DeRosa would need a public defender. "He's always been a pompous ass," Lynn DeRosa's cousin Ed Vetricin said outside of court. He thanked the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, Mullica Township police, the judge, jury and witnesses for making sure justice was served. Christopher DeRosa sat in the courtroom but did not speak. He chose not to comment after the verdict. FULL VIDEO OF SENTENCING https://www.facebook.com/lyndacohen.news/videos/1521834087911555/
