  • News

An Atlantic City man and woman were arrested this week with 110 bags of heroin and a stolen gun, police said.

Sgt. Andrew Leonard and Detective Anthony Abrams pulled over the couple in the area of Indiana and

Mediterranean avenues at 9:44 p.m. Tuesday, for careless driving and tinted windows, according to the report.

While talking to Omar Butcher and Nia Lovelace, the officers smelled burnt marijuana and saw a joint in the center console, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.

Butcher, 25, was driving with a suspended license.

An investigation led to searches of the vehicle and a residence nearby, Fair said.

Officers found 110 bags of heroin and a loaded handgun reported stolen from Iowa earlier this year.

Butcher and Lovelace, also 25, were charged with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession within a school zone, possession within 500 feet of a public zone, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense and receiving stolen property.

Butcher was additionally charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and multiple motor vehicle summonses.

Both were taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
