Man killed in Atlantic City shooting

  • News

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot overnight Sunday in what the prosecutor has attributed to street justice.
Jordan Reaves, of Pleasantville, was found shot in the 300 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue near the Boys and Girls Club after police were called to the scene just after 11 p.m. Sunday.
He was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he died.
"The stark reality is that in most of our recent homicide cases, local law enforcement is finding itself in a race against retribution by the streets," Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said, shortly after announcing the killing Monday.
Reaves was just 19 and living in Atlantic City when he survived a shooting two years ago. At the time, it was said to be part of a gang-related back-and-forth.
The admitted shooter in that attack is currently serving a five-year prison sentence.

But Reaves himself was a suspect in a shooting that wounded two people Thursday, Tyner said.
Messages from loved ones began flooding social media shortly after the shooting.
His aunt Serena Oglesby posted a picture she took with her nephew less than 48 hours before he was killed.
"I don't like taking pictures," she said he told her.
"Let's create memories," she replied. "We only live once."
The incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit with help from Atlantic City police.
Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crimes at 609-909-7666 or Atlantic City police at 609-347-5788. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
