Five charged in credit card fraud at casino

  • News

A Philadelphia man allegedly used a fraudulent credit card to buy nearly $12,000 worth of Borgata gift cards, then distributed them to four others.
All five men have been charged with identity theft, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy, Atlantic City Police Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Atlantic City police were called to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa by security personnel on June 13, regarding possible use of fraudulent credit cards.
An investigation by the Financial Crimes Unit found that a credit card was opened in the name of a Mechanicsburg, Pa., man without his knowledge, Fair said.
William Newhart then allegedly used the card to buy gift cards totaling $11,900.
He then gave the cards to four other men, who used them at various retail stores and restaurants at the casino, according to the complaint.
The other four men have been identified as Daniel Glick, 37, and Edwin Rivera, 43, both of Atlantic City; Keith Mruzinski, 24, of New Brunswick, and Salvatore Tomazzolli, 42, of Tobyhanna, Pa.
Newhart, 41, was additionally charged with fraudulent use of a credit card.
All five men were released on summonses.
