Man gets 42 years in killing of 9-year-old Bridgeton girl

  • News

A Bridgeton man was sentenced to 42 years in prison in the 2018 shooting that killed a 9-year-old girl asleep in her bed, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said.

Leroy Frazier was one of four men charged in the July 17, 2018, shooting where a bullet went through the wall of Jennifer Trejo’s bedroom. Trejo was killed. The intended target was not struck.

Frazier is the first to go to trial, where he was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and attempted murder.

He was sentenced to 25 years in the killing and 17 years in the attempt.

Those will run consecutive to a five-year sentence he is currently serving for drug and gun charges. That sentence is set to end in 2022, according to the Department of Corrections website.

Frazier, 21, must serve at least 35 years and nine months of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

At sentencing, the judge denied a motion for a new trial. A motion by the state to sentence Frazier for an extended term was also denied.

Trials are pending for Frazier’s three co-defendants, Michael Elliot, Zahmere McKoy and Charles Gamble.
