Hammonton man charged with sexually assaulting daughter

  • News

A Hammonton man previously accused of endangering a child is now charged with the sexual assault of his daughter.
Jontad Nava, 34, was arrested after he was allegedly found in bed naked with the girl the morning of July 12, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The girl's age is not listed but she is younger than 12, according to the charges.
The girl told investigators that Nava raped her that morning, and indicated other instances when she was similarly abused, the affidavit states.
Nava, whose first name is listed in the jail as Jonatad, was confronted with the allegations and would not provide information about the assault, witnesses told investigators.
He admitted during an interview that he was naked in bed with the girl, the affidavit states.
Nava had a detention hearing last week, and was ordered held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
At that hearing, it was revealed that Nava had a prior charge of endangering the welfare of a different child.
That was ultimately resolved as a petty disorder persons offense, according to information given at the hearing.
Details of that case could not be found in the court system.
He is charged with first-degree sexual assault along with child endangerment.
Nava, who is from Mexico, is currently on a detainer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In his previous case, he was released to ICE detainer, jail records show.
A motion in the case is expected to be heard this week.
