A Pleasantville man was killed in a motorcycle crash on the White Horse Pike early Sunday morning.
Brian Lewis, 49, was riding his motorcycle west on Route 30, when he struck an SUV that was in the roadway from a previous crash, Atlantic City Police Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Police were first called at 2:02 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash at milepost 55.2, Fair said.
A Pleasantville resident's had their Volkswagon Jetta parked on the shoulder of the road with hazard lights on when a Kia Sportage driven by an Egg Harbor Township resident left the road for an unknown reason and struck the Vokswagon, according to an investigation by Officer Joseph Bereheiko.
The Kia came to rest in the right lane of the road, Fair said.
Lewis drove up soon after and struck the side of the Kia, according to the report.
The force of the crash caused the Kia to flip onto its side.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the initial crash, officers were on the eastbound side of Route 30 for a vehicle that left the roadway and came to rest in the marsh.
There were no injuries in that crash, Fair said.
Route 30 was closed for about four hours from the fatal crash.
Bereheiko and Officer Eric Wessler are investigating, with help from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Collisions Unit.
