Brigantine man accused of killing wife told police ‘she cheated on me,’ affidavit says

A Brigantine man accused of killing his wife allegedly told police she cheated on him.
Rachel Declementi “told me she cheated on me with someone from Applebee’s” when she came home that night, Robert Declementi told police who found the man covered in blood when they arrived at the couple’s Girard Place home at about 4:30 Saturday morning, according to the affidavit.
Robert Declementi, 36, is charged with murder.
It appeared an attempt was made to clean the crime scene, and that the body had been dragged through the home, according to the affidavit.
A neighbor told police that what sounded like Rachel Declementi screaming was coming from inside the home at about 3 a.m. But the witness said it was not clear what was being said.
Robert Declementi’s father arrived on the scene, telling police he had a missed call from his son at 4 a.m.
Rachel Declementi’s body was found in the front entrance way, with multiple traumatic injuries to her head and face.
Investigators found a disheveled, blood-stained room in the rear of the residence. A long blood stain pattern led from there, through the kitchen to where the victim’s body was found.
A hammer was found underneath a bloody rag in the kitchen, according to the affidavit.
Multiple bloody discarded paper towels were located through the residence. In the kitchen was a blood-stained Swiffer mop, the affidavit states.
Robert Declementi had his wife’s wallet and car keys in the center console of his truck, according to the affidavit.
Declementi is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing set for Thursday.
