Teen released in fatal Vineland stabbing arrested in Florida assault

  • News

A Vineland teen on release in the fatal stabbing of his neighbor could be heading back to jail after an arrest in Florida.
Zachary Latham, 18, is accused of stabbing William Durham Sr. during a May 4 altercation inside Latham's garage.
Latham has called it self defense, but the state said that the teen had been harassing the victim's wife for weeks and encouraging others through various TikTok posts.
Right before the fatal fight, one of the couple's sons was biking down the street when Latham allegedly ran him off the road. The Durhams then went to Latham's home, where he had armed himself with a knife and Taser.
Now, Latham is again accused of an assault in which he allegedly again used his car as a weapon.
A motorist in Fort Myers flagged down a trooper saying another driver brandished a firearm at him and then tried to ram his vehicle with their car.
Latham was later stopped, and an airsoft BB gun was found in his car, according to the report.
He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to commit a felony.
Latham, who is apparently living in Naples, Florida, is free on $40,000 bond.
But he may not stay that way.
The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office has filed a motion to revoke Latham's release.
The hearing was scheduled for Friday, but has been postponed to next week.
The latest arrest proves why Latham should still be in jail, said attorney Diane Ruberton, who represents the Durhams.
"They believed from the beginning he was dangerous and should not have been released," Ruberton said. "His most recent arrest in Florida confirms what they already knew, especially in light of the fact that his actions were eerily similar, dangerous and aggressive."
Latham also has continued to post about the case on social media, even though he agreed not to as a condition of release, Ruberton said.
A condition of his release was not to return to the home where the killing happened.
There was no restriction on his travel, Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said.
Webb-McRae's officer unsuccessfully appealed Latham's release in May.
