Somers Point man allegedly left unsecured guns within child’s reach

A Somers Point man was arrested after a warrant for someone else led police to two allegedly unsecured guns within reach of a child.
Police were executing a search warrant at the Cleveland Avenue home in connection with an arson case involving Khristopher Akarman.
But while there, they found Mark Minter, 44, asleep with his girlfriend in a bed in the living room, according to the affidavit. A 10-year-old child was asleep in a trundle bed nearby.
The officers found a loaded semi-automatic 9mm Walter P22 pistol on the floor next to the trundle, where the child could have easily reached it, the affidavit states. The gun was not secured by any locking device.
There was also a cased AR-15 type rifle nearby, which also was not secured and was loaded with a high-capacity magazine, the charges claim.
Minter is charged with leaving a loaded firearm where a minor would reasonably be presumed to have access to it, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a large-capacity magazine.
He was not listed in the jail.
