Propane canister likely cause of Pleasantville car explosion

  • News

Police were on the scene of a car explosion in Pleasantville on Wednesday evening.
Tyrone Jenkins, 55, suffered minor injuries, police said. Sources said it appeared accidental.
The call came in as a vehicle crash, Lt. Stacey Schlachter said.
Sgt. Ryan VanSyckle and Officer Jean Antoine were first on the scene and secured the area after seeing it was an explosion.
The Atlantic City Bomb Squad responded to evaluate the explosion, and determined the possible cause was an unsecured propane canister, Schlachter said.
Pleasantville police and firefighters were on the scene in the 800 block of West Adams Avenue.
“We felt it on Seneca,” a woman who lives a block away said.
She and her husband had just sat down to dinner when they felt the impact.
Jenkins, the car's owner, was treated at the scene for an injury, and later taken to the hospital for further treatment, Schlacther said.
Area residents were advised to shelter in place as the vehicle was secured.  There was no additional damage or injury reported.
