Woman killed in Atlantic City shooting

  • News

Detectives are investigating a shooting that killed an Atlantic City woman early Sunday morning, BreakingAC has learned.

Police were called to the first block of South Bellevue Avenue just after 1 a.m. for the report of a shooting, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.

Malikah McLaughlin, 26, was found shot, and pronounced dead, according to the office.

Mayor Marty Small said he was told of the death moments after it happened by acting Chief James Sarkos.

“Any time a life is lost, it takes a toll on our community,” he told BreakingAC.

Small said he has lifelong relationships with McLaughlin’s parents and their families.

“I assured them that our Police Department will work relentlessly to solve this crime,” he said.

It’s not the first time someone in the family has been lost to violence.

McLaughlin’s younger brother, Michael McLaughlin, was just 17 when he was killed in 2018.

During a dice game gone wrong, the teen was shot in the back as he fled. Rashaad Norwood is serving a 25-year sentence for the crime.

This was the second fatal shooting in the city in three days.

Jordan Eaddy, 31, of Philadelphia, was found dead in the 1300 block of Baltic Avenue just after midnight Thursday.

The killing happened in a year when the city had seen no shooting deaths.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at (609) 909-7666. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
