An Ocean County man was arrested Saturday, after he was found with a knife at the Walmart in Egg Harbor Township and refused police commands.
David Brennan, 32, was seen in the electronics section of the township Walmart with a knife at about 2:40 p.m., Lt. Steve Slusarski said.
An employee saw him holding the knife in a threatening manner, which was confirmed by security, who called police, according to the report.
Officer arrived to find Brennan acing erratically with a knife in his right hand, Slusarski said. Brennan ignored officer commands.
Police evacuated the store with help from employees, according to the report.
Officers tried to negotiate with Brennan, who walked away. After about 10 minutes, officers used force due to what was deemed an immediate threat, Slusarski said.
Brennan was arrested, handcuffed and searched, according to the report. A five-inch folding knife was found in his right pants pocket.
Egg Harbor Township EMS evaluated him at the scene, and then he was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus.
He remains hospitalized in police custody. Weapons and other charges are pending.
