Two people were arrested Friday, after a loaded gun and drugs were found during a car stop related to a shots fired incident.
Officer John Bell stopped the vehicle at 9:46 p.m., after he saw it matched the description of one involved in a potential road rage incident last Tuesday, according to the report.
In that case, someone fired a handgun from the suspect vehicle, striking the victim’s car, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.
After Bell stopped the car Friday in the 1400 block of Absecon Boulevard, he had the two occupants get out.
K-9 Officer Jesse Oliver-Logan and his partner, Gee, responded, and Gee gave an indication of drugs in the vehicle, Aristizabal said.
A search recovered a loaded handgun under the passenger seat, where Khalif Chambers was sitting.
Chambers, 19, was then found with about 30 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 26 prescription Percocet pills, Aristizabal said. He also had about $900 believed to be from drug sales.
Chambers and the driver, Neveah Dorris, 20, of Pleasantville, were arrested and charged with weapons offenses. Chambers was additionally charged with the drugs.
Dorris was released on a summons.
Chambers is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
It was not his first time being arrested in a vehicle with a gun.
The car crashed with another car on Arctic Avenue, and the two then-18-year-olds were inside screaming for help. After they were removed from the vehicle, both were arrested.
The car had been reported stolen from Pleasantville. A loaded handgun with a high-capacity drum magazine and ammunition was found in the vehicle, police said at the time.
It is not clear what happened to Chambers in the case, which appears to have been closed without a sentencing. His co-defendant, Isa Salaam, is currently serving a three-year prison sentence in the case. Chambers’ name is listed as one of his aliases.
