A Burlington County man has pleaded guilty in a stabbing that wounded a Somers Point man last year.

Raul Virella Jr., now 30, faces a seven-year term under the plea to second-degree aggravated assault.

Police were called to the parking lot of Federal Court in Galloway Township on Feb. 8, 2022, and found 23-year-old Hisham Sarhan with stab wounds to his abdomen, according to the original report.

Sarhan was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he underwent lifesaving surgery, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Virella was arrested nearby.

He would have to serve at least 85 percent of any sentence he is given under the No Early Release Act. Sentencing is scheduled for May 9.

Scene of the stabbing Feb. 8, 2022.
