Atlantic City man pleads guilty in drug and gun case

  • News

An Atlantic City man pleaded guilty in a gun-and-drug case Thursday.

Divier Silva, 27, faces a five-year sentence under the plea agreement.

He must serve at least one year before he is eligible for parole.

Silva was arrested Dec. 26, 2020, after he and another man, Ernesto Contreras-Jimenez, were each found in possession of a loaded handgun when police were investigating a two-vehicle crash in Atlantic City.

Silva's gun had a 30-round magazine, police said at the time.

Officers also found more than nine ounces of marijuana in the vehicle.

Silva pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and third-degree possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

He is currently on release pending his sentencing set for Aug. 3.

Contreras-Jimenez was sentenced last year in the gun and drug case, along with a charge of manslaughter stemming from the fatal shooting of a friend when he was a minor.
