An Egg Harbor Township man accused of assaulting a police sergeant and then coming at him with a rock and his pit bull was arrested again early Tuesday morning, hours after he was released from jail.
Rene DeJesus had just returned home, when he allegedly attacked his son and the son's friend that were in his house, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
When police arrived, he allegedly punched Sgt. Michael Keeping, then later came at the officer with a rock and a metal bird feeder before going back inside his home and getting his pit bull.
Police said the pit bull was friendly but DeJesus was not.
It was DeJesus' first issue with police since 1983, when he was 19 years old, his attorney argued at a detention hearing Monday.
The public safety assessment, which is used to determine whether a defendant should be held under bail reform, recommended he be released under the lowest level of supervision.
Judge Dorothy Garrabrant decided to release him on the highest level, with weekly court check-ins.
When informed of the conditions of his release, DeJesus indicated to the judge that he understood.
But just hours after he left the Atlantic County Justice Facility, DeJesus was back in.
He was apparently not happy with how his son and his son's friend were behaving, according to the affidavit, which did not give the ages of the two alleged victims.
DeJesus "became irate towards them and he pushed his son and then struck the friend in the neck with a closed fist," Officer Luke Curran wrote in the affidavit.
The officer wrote that he saw an abrasion on the right side of the friend's neck.
DeJesus was initially uncooperative, but eventually came out of the bathroom, where he had locked himself, Curran wrote.
