Atlantic City woman found with gun leaving casino
An Atlantic City woman was arrested after a casino security guard saw her leaving with a gun and get into a cab, police said.
Jadairah James, 27, left the Ocean Casino Resort and got into a cab in the valet after 9 p.m. Friday, police said.
A security guard told police the woman displayed a handgun at the entrance to the property before exiting the property, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Officers Bao Pham, Brandon Jackson and Kyle Riordan were on foot patrol when they were stopped by the security team, according to the report.
Police stopped the cab and detained James, Fair said.
They found a loaded handgun and 68 individual bags of heroin, along with additional ammunition in the back of the cab, Fair said.
James already had a pending drug case from June in Atlantic City, court records show. She was released on a summons in that case.
She is now charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public zone.
James appeared in court briefly Monday via video from the jail, where she learned the state has moved to have her held.
“I have to get home to my brother’s,” she said.
As she continued to speak, Judge Jeffrey Waldman warned her not to talk about the case and told her he did not have the power to release her due to the state’s motion.
“I know you don’t have the power to release me,” she replied. “I just wanted to le you know. Give you a little bit of insight.
“I’m not no crazy person,” she continued. “I’m for the community. That’s all I’m trying to say, Judge.”
