Two men were indicted Wednesday in connection with the 2015 killing of a Mays Landing man.
Dennis J. Munoz, 37, of Galloway Township, was indicted on charges of murder and weapons offenses. Edwin Velazquez, 42, of Atlantic City, faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and being an accomplice to murder because he "did... agree to aid Dennis Munoz in the planning and/or commission of the murder of Michael Black," according to the indictment.
Hamilton Township police were called to the 5900 block of Elmhurst Drive at about 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9, 2015 in a call to 911, police said.
They found Black, 31, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he was later declared dead.
An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled it a homicide.
Munoz was arrested the next day, after an investigation by Hamilton Township police detectives and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
He was jailed on $1 million full cash bail.
Further investigation led to Velazquez's March 21 arrest.
The Atlantic City Public Works employee was arrested at his job by Major Crimes detectives with help from Atlantic City police.
He also was held on $1 million full cash bail.
Munoz also was indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has previous drug and gun convictions.
