A father and son are among five people charged with weapons offenses in a shootout on the Atlantic City Expressway that put them both in the hospital and killed an Egg Harbor Township man in another car.
It has not yet been determined who shot who, so there are no charges in the killing or injuries at this time.
Rosemond Octavius, 22, was found dead in the front passenger seat of a silver Nissan Maxima by State Police responding to a call on the Garden State Parkway near milepost 39.
The driver, Anthony Hicks, was uninjured, but told police that Octavius was shot as they drove down the expressway.
Hicks, 24, of Mays Landing, continued onto the parkway north.
The driver of a white Ford Expedition got off the expressway in Pleasantville, and drove down Delilah Road, losing his back left tire along the way before winding up at the Wawa on the Airport Circle in Egg Harbor Township.
According to police, the SUV's occupants also got rid of four weapons along the way.
State Police detectives and Egg Harbor Police K-9 officers traced the Expedition' path and found three handguns and an AK-style assault rifle, State Police said.
Shaun Stukes, 38, of Atlantic City, was driving the white SUV, according to family. He is hospitalized in the attack, along with his 19-year-old son, Yahshaun Stukes-Williams, of Mays Landing.
Lenardo Caro, 24, of Little Egg Harbor Township, was also wounded inside the SUV, along with a 16-year-old.
While police have not said what sparked the incident, family said the incident began at the Atlantic County Criminal Courthouse in Mays Landing, where Williams-Stukes had a status conference in a criminal case. It is not clear how the fight began or what sparked the shootout.
Hicks, Stukes, Stukes-Williams, Caro and the teen are charged with four counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count each of possession of an assault weapon and possession of a defaced fire arm.
The three adult males in the SUV are also charged with employing a juvenile in a crime.
Hicks is also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Troopers are still searching areas for additional evidence, so motorists could expect further police activity in the vicinity.
Bail for all the adult suspects has been set at $250,000 full cash.
