Atlantic City police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who they say tried to rob a convenience store Monday.
Officers responded to A.C. Convenience Store on the 4000 block of Ventnor Avenue at about 4:30 p.m.
The clerk told police the suspect was a Hispanic male who entered the store wearing a mask and took out what the clerk believed was a handgun from a bag, demanding money from register, Sgt. Kevin Fair said Tuesday.
The clerk grabbed the gun from the suspect, which turned out to be a BB gun.
"The suspect removed his mask and tried to pretend that he was playing a joke on the clerk," Fair said.
He then fled the store.
The clerk, 17-year-old Efaj Ahmed, told BreakingAC on Monday that he works at the store owned by his father for four hours after school.
He acted like he would comply with the robber, but then snatched the gun.
"I can't let somebody take my family's hard-working money," Ahmed said.
He also posted video surveillance of the incident, which he shared with BreakingAC.
Ahmed said he recognized the man, who he believes works at a restaurant.
Police believe the suspect lives in the area and his name may be Ed or Eddie.
