Public helps identify suspect in shooting that struck jitney

  • News
An Atlantic City teen was arrested after the public helped identify him in a shooting. A ShotSpotter alert at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday brought officers to the 1100 block of Adriatic Avenue, where they found several shell casings, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. The shooter had fled, but the public helped give police a description, according to the report. While police were searching, they were notified that a jitney had been struck by gunfire. A female passenger was injured by broken glass, but no one was shot. The suspect was identified, but his name was not released due to his age. Just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, Officer Justin Draper found the suspect in the 200 block of N. South Carolina Avenue, and he was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The teen was taken to Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
