An Atlantic City man was treated — and then arrested — after police trying to give him medical aid found a gun on him.
Police were called to the 1400 block of Jacobs Terrace just before 5 a.m. Thursday for a man sleeping in the hallway between floors, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Officers Lorenzo Bethea and Byron Hargis found the man unresponsive. They called an ambulance and then turned him over to begin administering aid when they saw a handgun under him, according to the report.
Noel Gonzalez, 29, also had 33 bags of heroin on him, Fair said.
He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he was treated and then released into police custody. Gonzalez is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $20,000 bail.
He is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of heroin.
UPDATE
Gonzalez was sentenced to five years in prison in January 2018. He must serve at least 3½ years on the gun charge.
