An Atlantic City man was arrested with a handgun after the city's ShotSpotter audio gunshot-detection system sent out an alert, police said.
The system went off at 10:22 p.m. in the area of South Carolina and Adriatic avenues, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. An investigation by officers led to the identification of the vehicle the suspect had fled in.
Officers Marinela Pali, Ryan Kov and George Mancuso found the vehicle in the 1300 block of Caspian Avenue.
Naim Jackson, 28, was found curled up in the back seat next to two small children, including an infant in a car seat, according to the report. The gun was found under the baby's seat.
Jackson is charged with weapons offenses, along with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 bail.
In 2012, Jackson was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm, court records show. He later pled to a lesser charge and was given a three-year sentence.
Jackson was sentenced to five years in prison March 16, 2018, on charges including aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, possession of a weapon and child endangerment.
He must serve at least 85 percent of that time, or about four years and three months, before he is eligible for parole.
