A Ventnor woman jailed on child endangerment and drug charges in her infant's death allegedly gave the 8-month-old girl methadone, according to new charges.
Lisa Scalia, 32, was jailed in January after police responded to her Monmouth Avenue home and found baby Olaia Marie Mejia unconscious.
The infant died at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia days later.
A preliminary investigation found Scalia was under the influence of narcotics, and in possession of drugs, including 34 bags of heroin and 10 oxycodone pills, according to authorities at the time.
Further investigation found that drugs were also in the baby's system, according to acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton said Tuesday.
Now Scalia is charged with aggravated manslaughter. She was served with the new charge at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where she has been since the incident. She was allowed to attend her daughter's funeral.
