A man was shot and his friend arrested after a gun accidentally went off inside a car in a casino parking garage, police said.
Kevin Neeld, 19, of Hamilton Township, came into the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus in Galloway Township at about 11:20 p.m. with a gunshot wound, police said.
He told police he was shot in Atlantic City. An investigation by the city's Violent Crimes Unit led to the arrest of Joseph Crouch, 20, of Alton, Illinois.
Crouch, Neeld and a friend were in a vehicle on the top floor of the parking garage at Tropicana Hotel and Casino, when Crouch pulled out a gun and it accidentally discharged, striking Neeld, according to the report.
Crouch threw the handgun from the vehicle as Neeld was driven to the hospital.
The gun was later found by Tropicana security officers and recovered by a detective with the police department’s Forensics Unit.
The Violent Crimes Unit was assisted in this investigation by the Galloway Township Police Department and Tropicana Security.
Crouch was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
