Retired Ventnor fire chief dies from fall off roof

  • News
A retired Ventnor fire chief died from injuries suffered in a fall from the roof of his home. Police, fire and medics responded to the 200 block of North Cambridge Avenue on Thursday afternoon, where Dan Cahill was found unconscious, acting Police Chief Doug Biagi said. Cahill was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Many of the fire and emergency medical technicians who tended to Cahill had worked for and with him during his years as fire chief, said Biagi, who worked for Cahill when he was a firefighter in the mid-1980s. "He was an amazing person," Biagi said. "A compassionate human being who always had a friendly smile and a kind word." After Cahill retired, Biagi said he would see him almost daily riding his bike in the city, and stopping to talk to friends. "All of Ventnor is devastated and feeling this loss," he said. Funeral arrangements are pending.
