Atlantic City got nine new officers this week.
The residents were sworn in as Special Law Enforcement Officers, commonly known as Class II.
The officers have nearly the same training as full-time officers but are paid $15 an hour without benefits and have limited hours.
They replace seven Class IIs who were
promoted to full-time officers last month. That has not previously happened in Atlantic City, but was allowed due to the lifting of civil service restrictions as part of the state takeover.
Mailon Demby, Troy Grams, La’Quay Green Sr., Ivaylo Ivanov, Wahab Malik, Danish Mohammad, Jamira Norwood, Hossain Shaheen and Sierra Storione will begin the Gloucester County Police Academy on Monday, and graduate in March.
