Buena Vista man killed in crash into Mullica River

  • News
A Buena Vista Township man was found dead Monday morning after his car crashed into the Mullica River. Robert Ramos, 31, of the township's Newtonville section, was found dead inside his Honda Civic by members of the Sweetwater Fire Department Cold Water Rescue Team. Mullica Township police along with firefighters and AtlantiCare EMS were called to the 4500 block of Pleasant  Mills Road just after 7 a.m. for the report of a car in the river. An investigation found that Ramos was heading north on Elwood Road when, for unknown reasons, he didn't stop at the Pleasant Mills Road intersection and continued through a residential yard and into the water. It is believed the crash happened at about 6:30 Sunday night, Police Chief John Thompson said. "The homeowner there noticed a flash of light in her window," he said. "She went outside and walked around her driveway but did not see anything. The cold water team along with the New Jersey State Police Technical Emergency and Mission Specialists Unit worked with a heavy tow recovery service to remove Ramos and the car.
