Residents helped police arrest a man who allegedly burglarized a vehicle in Egg Harbor Township on New Year's Day.
Police were called to the London Court condominiums in the township's Farmington section, after witnesses saw a man inside an unlocked vehicle, Lt. Robert Gray said. They gave police a description of the suspect, along with where he went.
Officers Christopher Berry and Paul Janetta found Andrew Watts, 31, of Galloway Township, and arrested him.
He was charged with burglary, theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was issued a warrant.
Township police are using the incident to remind residents and visitors to lock their vehicles, Gray said.
In 2016, there were 183 reported vehicle burglaries and an unknown number that were unreported.
"Most could have been prevented by just locking the doors to their vehicle," Gray said.
