Three men were indicted on weapons charges Wednesday in a deadly shootout on the Atlantic City Expressway that reportedly started at the Atlantic County Criminal Courthouse.
Yahshaun Stukes-Williams and Rosemund Octavius both had hearings Aug. 29, in separate courtrooms inside the Mays Landing courthouse.
A few hours later, Octavius was dead inside a silver Nissan Maxima on the Garden State Parkway near milepost 39 north. But the driver, Anthony Hicks, would tell investigators the shooting happened on the expressway.
Around the same time, a bullet-riddled white Ford Expedition sped into the Wawa on the Airport Circle in Egg Harbor Township. Stukes-Williams was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. His father, Shaun Stukes, was behind the wheel, also wounded.
Shot in the back seat were Lenardo Caro and a 16-year-old boy.
The Expedition is believed to have exited the expressway in Pleasantville and sped down Delilah Road, where remnants of the shredded back right tire were found.
Also along the way, the truck’s occupants allegedly ditched their weapons.
Police seized a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a 1914 Erfurt 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a Desert Eagle .50-caliber semi-automatic handgun and a 7.62 mm Kalashnikov assault rifle, according to the charges.
This week, a grand jury indicted Caro, Stukes and Stukes-Williams were indicted on five counts, including weapons offenses and conspiring with a juvenile in the commission of a crime.
On Thursday, the man who allegedly wounded Stukes, his son, Caro and the teen was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
