A California truck driver who admitted to trafficking drugs through New Jersey was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Henry Cruz Ventura, 40, of Los Angeles, was arrested Aug. 23, when a trooper found 64 kilograms of heroin during a commercial vehicle safety inspection on a Warren County highway.
Ventura pleaded guilty last month to first-degree possession with intent to distribute.
Leaders have credited Trooper James Agens with the arrest, after he noticed Ventura acting suspiciously and saw irregularities with the tractor-trailer and its cargo.
Inside four boxes that were inconsistent with the legitimate cargo listed on the shipping manifest, Agens and Sgt. 1st Class Ronald Mistretta found the heroin and 10 kilograms of cocaine.
