Woman arrested in stabbing

  • News
An Atlantic City woman was arrested with a large butcher knife after she allegedly stabbed her son's girlfriend. Police were called to the 2300 block of Atlantic Avenue at about 5:45 p.m. for the report of a woman threatening people in the area with the knife, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
ONE ARRESTED IN STABBING Officers Joshua Schwenger and Andrew Milone were in the area and were on scene within seconds of the call, Fair said. They found Ivonne Herrera, 45, holding the knife and arguing with a man, according to the report. Herrera originally refused numerous orders to drop the knife, but eventually did, Fair said. She resisted arrest when the officers and Sgt. Charles Stuart took her into custody. Herrera stabbed her son's 26-year-old girlfriend, according to the charges. When her son, also 26, heard his girlfriend scream, he tried to stop his mother, and was cut in the finger, according to the report. Herrera allegedly fled and the victim was immediately taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus by her boyfriend for her injury, which was not considered life-threatening. The names of the victims are not being released due to the domestic nature of the incident, Fair said. Herrera was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, simple assault with a weapon, and resisting arrest. Herrera was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
