A three-week drug investigation led to the arrest of two men and discovery of an assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine, police said.
Detective Brian Hambrecht led the three-week drug investigation, which led to the search of a home in the 1500 block of Emerson Avenue.
Darrell Wade and Ernest Marable were inside the home, where officers also found 51 bags of heroin packaged for sale and a Romanian-made assault rifle loaded with 72 rounds of 7.62 mm-caliber ammunition, including 21 that were hollow-point bullets, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Wade, 45, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of possession of a prohibited device (the hollow-point bullets and high-capacity magazine), and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Wade previously served time for a 1990 aggravated assault charge, according to court records. He was sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Marable, 50, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute and possession within a school zone. He was released on a summons.
