Atlantic County corrections officer admits to criminal sexual contact with female inmate

  • News
A 21-year veteran Atlantic County corrections officer admitted Monday to criminal sexual contact with a woman serving a sentence in the county jail. Officer Castulo Matos, 48, of Egg Harbor City, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to the accusation of the fourth-degree crime in exchange for a sentence of probation. The length of his probation will be at the judge's discretion when he is sentenced June 16. He must also give up his public employment. Matos was immediately suspended from his job at the Atlantic County Justice Facility immediately after the woman reported it to staff members at the Atlantic County Justice Facility on Dec. 13. The woman, whose name is not being released due to the nature of the crime, said that Matos made sexual comments to her on several dates prior to his improperly touching her on Dec. 5, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said. The incident was investigated by officers from the Atlantic County Department of Public Safety's Division of Adult Detention Investigations Unit and detectives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Official Corruption Unit.
