Atlantic City man awaiting sentencing arrested on new gun charge

  • News

An Atlantic City man awaiting sentencing on a gun charge was arrested with a loaded handgun Wednesday, police said.
Darren Nedrick, 19, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 4, in connection to shots fired Feb. 3, at the Uptown Complex in Atlantic City.
Nedrick was out pending his sentencing when Sgt. Andrew Leonard and Detective Anthony Abrams stopped him at about 2:45 p.m. for driving erratically as he drove north on Indiana Avenue near the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School, according to the police report.
A 17-year-old passenger was also in the car.
An investigation by the officers led to a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine inside the vehicle, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Nedrick and the teen were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a prohibited device.
Nedrick was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. The teen, whose name is not being released due to his age, was taken to the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
Fair said he could not confirm if the teen was the same one charged with Nedrick in the previous case.
In that case, a 16-year-old already on house arrest was charged.
