A Mays Landing woman driving while impaired and without a valid license was severely injured in a crash that closed an Egg Harbor Township road Tuesday night, police said.
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Ocean Heights Avenue near the Hamilton Trails golf course. The road was closed for about three hours.
Krystal Maxwell-Home, 27, was in a 1999 Ford Ranger traveling east in the westbound lane when she struck a 2014 Nissan Frontier head on at the curve at Miry Run on the border between Egg Harbor and Hamilton townships, police said.
The other driver, Osvaldo Artis, 30, of Millville, suffered moderate injury and was taken by ambulance to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.
Maxwell-Home was not wearing a seat belt and thrown from her vehicle, sustaining multiple traumatic injuries, police said.
She was taken to the Trauma Unit via helicopter.
She was given summons for driving while impaired, driving while suspended, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane and failure to wear a seat belt.
Criminal charges are pending further investigation, police said.
The crash is being investigated by Officers Patrick Daly, Louis Poletis and Joseph Griffiths.
