Fire displaces five people in Pleasantville

  • News
A fire displaced five people Sunday night. The large fire burned both stories of the home that housed two apartments. Upon arrival at the building on South Second Street, the fire was in the rear and quickly extinguished, Fire Chief Steve Wilkins said. But, it was able to penetrate the eave of he first flood, and traveled inside the walls into the second floor above the ceiling and below the roof, he said. With limited access, he fire spread throughout the area until firefighters were able to cut a hole in the roof. "Once the roof was ventilated, the fire was easier to fight," he said. The cause is still under investigation. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, Wilkins said. He was treated and released. Aid from Margate, Absecon, Ventnor, Galloway and the Atlantic City International Airport was on scene. [gallery size="large" type="slideshow" ids="5584,5585,5583"]
